Chapel: New Year’s Resolutions & Goals

New Year, new you! Why should we make resolutions? We make them to improve and to do better with our lives. Setting goals allows us to get closer to where we want to be in life. Think of what you would like to work on-sports, classes, relating better to my parents, or anything else. Then take steps to achieve it.

David in the bible was one of the best songwriters in the world as well as a warrior, a musician, a fine spirit, handsome. He could chase away evil spirits just by playing music. How did he get all these attributes?

As the youngest of eight brothers, David was told to tend his father’s sheep. He did the very best he could do with a not so fun job. He made a guitar, practiced it all day and night, and started writing songs. He got better every day! The music was so soothing it would lull the sheep to sleep. Happy sheep produce the best wool and milk.

David discovered that practice makes perfect!

He practiced shooting his sling on all the predators that tried to get his sheep. Lions, wolves…he practiced and got better.

God anointed him to be king. That was always the plan, but David needed to start at the bottom so he could learn to be a leader of men.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for prosperity and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” God gave David a future and a hope, prosperity. David, He said, you’ll be king!

Keep trying until you get it right. David served his generation during his time through the plan of God.

Resolutions! Pray to the Lord about your goals. Write out steps to achieve those goals. Put them on the wall so you can be reminded of your plans. Find the hope that God has for you!
