Chapel: Like a Pumpkin

Mrs. Simpkin’s 5/6 grades class brought chapel this week with a wonderful message about how God can transform our lives. Using a pumpkin, the class demonstrated how God takes out the “yucky stuff” in us and replaces it with His love and light. This is an excellent reminder as Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend to not get caught up in the darkness. Seek out the love the Lord to light your life!

John 15:16 says “You did not choose me but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit, fruit will last and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”

Take a pumpkin. You aren’t a pumpkin, but all of us are something like one. God picks you from the patch, brings you in.

So, God then washes all the dirt off you may have gotten from the other pumpkins.

In 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”

Put in your hand and pull out the insides. He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, impurity, and greed. The yucky stuff inside of us.

In summary of Romans 6:6, God opens you up and scoops out all the yucky stuff.  He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc.

He then carves a new smiling face. To worship him like Psalm 71:23 says, “My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to You; I, whom You have redeemed.”

And He puts His light inside you to shine for all the world to see.

Just like in Matthew 5:16 says, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Isaiah 9:2 “The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”

But if we leave a pumpkin with just the insides taken out, then it’s just hollow. We need to have a light inside that will truly make us alive! Jesus said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’

Shine a light to the inside of the pumpkin.

When Jesus lives inside of you, you can glow! You will want to be kind and honest. You will want to please God, to help others, and to tell other people about your Friend and Lord.
